Coach Paulo Gonzales Crossfit Personal Trainer Alabang Las Pinas Manila Philippines

Coach Paulo Gonzales

Certifications

ACE CPT; CF Level 1 Trainer; CF Gymnastics; ASPATA H.I.I.T. Certified; IKSFA Level 1

Coach Paulo is perhaps the epitome of the phrase “CrossFit is life”. It was not that long ago when he came across the CrossFit Games on TV and took an interest in it. He did his research, saw that it could be a potentially effective program to improve his strength and fitness, and has not looked back since.

CrossFit is a game-changer for Coach Paulo as it was only through this sport that he gained the optimal fitness that he has been trying to achieve for years. He was also able to develop skills that he never thought he could, which is always a great bonus. But, above all else, Coach Paulo treasures the camaraderie that is built inside the box as he puts great emphasis on the importance of community.

Coach Renee Pasco

Certifications

CF Level 1 Trainer; CF Gymnastics Trainer; CF Kids Trainer;

CF Weightlifting

Coach Renee Pasco, or “Coach Ren” to her students, first got into CrossFit because it tested her limits. In 2015, after giving birth to her second child, she took her first ever CrossFit class. With her athletic background, she thought her first WOD would be a piece of cake. However, she learned the hard way that it wasn’t. Never one to pass up a challenge, she attended another CrossFit session and has fallen in love with the sport since.

When asked what she loves about CrossFit, Coach Ren said that it is a source of inspiration for her, mainly coming from both her co-coaches and the athletes. At the same time, it allows her to serve as an inspiration to others, especially to those who still have reservations about the sport. But more importantly, Coach Ren believes that CrossFit has improved her life in more ways than one – it enabled her to determine both her strengths and weaknesses and instilled in her the value of discipline and hard work.

Coach Jonathan Badilla Crossfit Personal Trainer Alabang Las Pinas Manila Philippines

Coach Jonathan Badilla

Certifications

CF Level 1 Trainer; CF Gymnastics; CF Boot Camp Instructor

What started out as an enthusiasm for fitness eventually became a lifestyle for Coach Jonathan, or “Coach Jumbo” as he is often referred to. He was already a Circuit training and HIIT coach in a gym before he learned about CrossFit. His then employer wanted to know more about the sport and took the L1 seminar. This interest was passed on to Coach Jumbo, who fell in love with CrossFit. Fast forward to a few months, he started working at a CrossFit box, did an internship and, as they say, the rest is history.

For Coach Jumbo, what sets CrossFit apart from other sports is the community. While he is immensely competitive, he always sees it as healthy competition. This is because, at the end of the day, everyone encourages and supports each other, whether inside or outside the box. CrossFit has also made him a more optimistic person. Through CrossFit, he realizes that a loss is not a loss but simply an opportunity to learn.

Coach Nolan Collado

Certifications

CF Level 2 Trainer; CF Weightlifting; CF Gymnastics

Coach Nolan first started CrossFit when he was still working as a Biomechanics Trainer for a gym situated in Davao City. The appeal of CrossFit to him was that it is challenging – he works harder and strives to learn more than he originally did. Above all, it was the community and the ability to connect with other athletes, gain friends and change lives that sealed the deal for Coach Nolan. Being an introverted person, having a CrossFit community consisting of like-minded individuals helped break down his walls and made him a more energetic and approachable individual.

Coach Roland Hernandez Crossfit Personal Trainer Alabang Las Pinas Manila Philippines

Coach Roland Hernandez

Certifications

Certified Personal Trainer; Mobility L-1; Kettlebell L1; Khan 11-Muay Thai

Like most CrossFit athletes today, Coach Roland was awed and inspired by the “Fittest Man on Earth”, Rich Froning, after seeing him kill his WODs on the Games. Coach Roland’s life before CrossFit was already built on sports; he has done badminton, swimming, martial arts and tennis, among others. He watched videos and taught himself the various CrossFit movements until he came across Iron Den. Since then, he has made it his home box and has moved up the ranks as a coach.

While he sees nothing but positives when it comes to CrossFit, Coach Roland says that the one thing he loves most about the sport is the community it brings. Being an athlete for most of his life, he is used to competing. With CrossFit, however, the sense of community always topples competition.

In CrossFit, Coach Roland not only found a way to become truly fit, he also discovered a passion he didn’t know he had. CrossFit is now deeply embedded in him and the values he learned is something that he applies to every single day of his life.

Coach Patrick Valenzuela

Certifications

CF Level 1 Trainer

If you ask Coach Patrick 2 years ago if he would become a CrossFit coach, he would’ve laughed at you. CrossFit was never in the plan for Coach Pat until April 2015, when he first started out in the sport. After trying it for the first time, it stuck with him and fast forward to a few months, he decided to work as a coach.

More than just a sport, Coach Pat considers CrossFit as a lifestyle. He has struggled with his weight before he discovered CrossFit, which is the biggest reason why he decided to become a coach. For him, it became a calling and he saw the significance of sharing his knowledge and helping people achieve their fitness goals.  He believes having a great CrossFit community – one that works toward a common goal of being better individuals – is beneficial to make the fitness process more fun and enjoyable.

Coach Xhi Tabalan

Certifications

CF Level 1 Trainer

Coach Xhi is Iron Den’s very own Wonder Woman. From a young age, she was already into sports and always had a knack for competing. Despite all her activities, however, she was unable to achieve the ideal physique that she wanted. As a result, she took up Sports Science to know more about fitness in general. Over the years, she went through a roller coaster ride that involved becoming a mother and getting into a vehicular accident, which she deemed would end her fitness career.

That was until she discovered CrossFit. After years of trial and error, she discovered the sport and found it to be the perfect match for her lifestyle due to the short-but-intense format of the workouts. Getting into CrossFit, she knew she had found a new calling and worked towards becoming a coach to help improve the quality of lives of several other individuals. Nothing screams fun more than a class full of stoked students who are ready to work on their skills. With CrossFit, Coach Xhi is efficiently able to juggle her time between her kids (and dogs!) and her second family – the athletes.

FAQS

CROSSFIT MEMBERSHIP RATES AND QUESTIONS

Q: Is CrossFit okay for first-timers?

A: Absolutely! What’s great about CrossFit is that the exercises can be scaled down according to your fitness level. So, whether you are just beginning your fitness journey or already a competitive athlete, there is surely a CrossFit workout for you.

Q: Does the package include a trainer?

A: Yes, it does! All of the classes are facilitated and supervised by a certified CrossFit coach. For those with CrossFit experience who would like to do their own exercises, you may opt to do “open gym” and workout outside of the classes. Regardless of your choice, there will be coaches available in the box should you need any assistance.

Q: What should I wear/bring?

A: Wear your favorite workout outfit or pretty much anything you’re comfortable in. The usual top, shorts/tights, socks and shoes will do. A towel and change of clothes is also advised. You can also bring your own water bottle. Cold and hot water is available in the box for free.

As you go on in your CrossFit journey, you will start to learn more about the other gear and accessories that will complement your training. For now, however, the basics are good enough.

Q: Are there shower rooms and lockers?

A: Yes to both. Lockers can be used during your stay. Shower rooms are also available for use after a sweat-inducing WOD.

Q: How often should I work out?

A: Our coaches recommend a workout regimen of 3-4 times per week in order to see and feel results. Below is our suggested 4 training days that you may choose to do:

workout-schedule

Q: Is CrossFit effective for weight loss?

A: This one’s a tricky question. It’s best to differentiate weight loss from fat loss. Weight loss basically means lowering your body weight, which involves the sum of your muscle, body fat, bones, etc. Hence, you can do strength training and lose fat but still retain your body weight, which is fat loss. Likewise, you may achieve weight loss by simply starving yourself. Now, we don’t want that, do we?

So, a better question would be – is CrossFit effective for health goals?

The answer to this is a resounding yes! However, CrossFit is not an infallible, no-hassle means of achieving your health goals. In fact, like with all other exercises, CrossFit should be supplemented with proper nutrition and ample sleep. What sets CrossFit apart is that the movements vary from class to class and are done at a high intensity within a short period of time. Not only do you get to exercise, you also start to unlock new skills that you might have initially thought you never would. Isn’t that an exciting prospect? With CrossFit, you lose weight while becoming stronger and healthier at the same time.
