Q: Is CrossFit effective for weight loss?
A: This one’s a tricky question. It’s best to differentiate weight loss from fat loss. Weight loss basically means lowering your body weight, which involves the sum of your muscle, body fat, bones, etc. Hence, you can do strength training and lose fat but still retain your body weight, which is fat loss. Likewise, you may achieve weight loss by simply starving yourself. Now, we don’t want that, do we?
So, a better question would be – is CrossFit effective for health goals?
The answer to this is a resounding yes! However, CrossFit is not an infallible, no-hassle means of achieving your health goals. In fact, like with all other exercises, CrossFit should be supplemented with proper nutrition and ample sleep. What sets CrossFit apart is that the movements vary from class to class and are done at a high intensity within a short period of time. Not only do you get to exercise, you also start to unlock new skills that you might have initially thought you never would. Isn’t that an exciting prospect? With CrossFit, you lose weight while becoming stronger and healthier at the same time.
